Dr. S.K. Chou is a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS). He is jointly the Executive Director of the NUS Energy Studies Institute, a think tank sponsored by three Singapore ministries. He chairs the technical evaluation panel on the Grant for Energy Efficiency Technology of the National Environment Agency.
Dr. Chou was seconded to the Science Council of Singapore and the National Science and Technology Board as Executive Director from 1990 to 1992. From 1992 to 2000, he was the founding Director of the NUS Industry and Technology Relations Office. From 1995 to 2001, he was the founding Managing Director of the NUS Technology Holdings Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned NUS company for seeding new technology start-ups from university research and inventions. He was Head of the NUS Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1998 to 2003, and Vice-Dean of the NUS Faculty of Engineering from 2003 to 2008. He also served on the Board of Governors of Singapore Polytechnic.
Dr. Chou is a Fellow and Immediate Past President of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore. He received his B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Singapore, and earned his D.E.A. and Dr-Ing. from Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Arts et Metiers, Paris, under a French Government Scholarship.
